Everything Begins with Wood

By Sobre a Artista

Manifesto

Claudia Carmona does not create objects. She listens to matter and translates memories. Each piece is born from an encounter — between the artist and the fragment, between time lived and time to come. Wood never dies — it transforms. And in this transformation, it invites the observer to pause, feel and recognize the essential.

The Material

Everything begins with wood. Fragments of peroba, ipê, jatobá — noble woods from the cerrado and Amazon that arrive in the artist's hands laden with history. Each piece carries the marks of time: knots, fissures, grain patterns telling decades of growth and resilience.

The Process

Claudia's creative process is contemplative and ritualistic. There is no imposition of form — there is listening. The artist observes the fragment, feels its texture, identifies its scars and, from this silent dialogue, allows form to emerge. Time is co-author of each piece.

The Philosophy

In Claudia Carmona's work, the discarded finds permanence. What seemed to have reached its end discovers new origin. Each sculpture is a ritual of transformation — of the material and of those who contemplate it. The artist believes that true art does not decorate spaces; it transforms those who inhabit them.

Sustainability

All wood used by Claudia is reclaimed — sourced from sustainable management, demolitions or disposal. No tree is felled for artistic creation. This choice is not merely aesthetic, but ethical: art as a vehicle for environmental awareness and respect for nature.
